FAQ

If you have questions about getting tattooed, you’ll probably find the answers here.

Do you take walk-ins?

Yes, I take walk-ins on Wednesdays. All other days of the week appointments are recommended to make sure I have time set aside for you.

How do I make an appointment, and what is your availability?

You can call or text me at (619) 736-6321, email me at tattoosbytristen@gmail.com, or DM me on instagram @tristenschwanz. In the message please include a description of the tattoo you’d like, placement, size, and any reference photos you may have. Availability varies from same day to a month out.

Do I need to know exactly what I want to get tatooed?

Not at all. Feel free to reach out to talk about your idea. I can give you guidance or recommendations over the phone, or we can schedule a time for you to come by the shop for an in-person consultation. I also have plenty of ready to go flash designs available to choose from.

How much does a tattoo cost?

Pricing for custom tattoos varies depending on the size, style, placement, and time needed to complete the piece. I also offer affordable options from a large selection of flash designs.

How old do you need to be to get a tattoo in San Diego?

You must be 18 years old or older to get a tattoo in San Diego. No exceptions. California state law does not allow tattooing minors, even with parental consent. Please bring a valid state or federal ID to your appointment.

How do I take care of my tattoo?

Standard aftercare-

After your appointment, remove wrap, wash with warm water and antibacterial soap, pat dry and leave alone for the rest of the day. For the following two weeks wash once a day in the shower with warm water and antibacterial soap (hand wash, no loofa, no washcloth on tattoo). Lotion twice a day with non-scented lotion. With lotion, use a small amount and fully rub in, should not look wet or shiny. For two weeks, do not submerge under water (swimming in pools, ocean, bath, etc.). Don’t pick or scratch tattoo. Let any scabs that form fall off by themsleves. You can lightly smack tattoo to help with itching sensation.

Second skin covering aftercare-

Leave second skin on for up to 4 days. It is water proof, you can shower like normal but still do not submerge under water (swimming in pools, ocean, bath, etc.). Take second skin off early if the seal is broken or it is leaking out of the bandage. Fluid build up is normal as long as it doesn’t escape bandage. Once bandage is removed resort to standard aftercare.

Do you do free touch-ups?

Yes! As long as aftercare was properly followed. If a tattoo I did for you needs a touch up, just reach out.

Do you have a shop minimum?

Yes, my minimum is 100$ and goes up from there depending on size placement and detail.

Is parking available at your shop

There are a few parking spots available inside the gate on a first come first serve basis. If the gate is full there is plenty of free street parking near the shop.
